The students celebrated Think Pink Week by using the college’s hairdressing facilities to host a public salon for the whole week, with all proceeds going directly to the charity. In addition, they organised a successful raffle which sold 3 raffle books-worth of tickets and also ran a cake sale of delicious baked goods.
The charity is currently developing vaccines to prevent cancer; investigating cancer biomarkers; and transforming treatment for young people, with the eventual goal of finding a cure for cancer. By supplementing Cancer Research UK’s operations, the money raised is going towards helping those most affected by a cancer diagnosis.
The students and staff truly got stuck in for the occasion by decorating the salon with balloons and wearing their best pink outfits. Their efforts certainly paid off as the money raised broke their own record from previous years.
Curriculum Manager for Creative Arts & Hairdressing & Barbering, Kelly Broughton, says, ‘Throughout the week, there was a fantastic atmosphere in the salon and it was great to see so many people from the local community get involved. On behalf of the college, I would like to pass on my thanks and congratulations to all the students involved.’
