Returning to learning: building confidence through English and Maths at Warrington & Vale Royal College
Returning to education can feel like a big step, but it can also be the start of something life changing. At Warrington & Vale Royal College, adult students are met with a welcoming, supportive environment where they can rebuild their confidence and gain essential skills.
One student who has benefited from this support is Vanessa. She enrolled on a Functional Skills Maths course to challenge herself and achieve something she had previously struggled with at school. Having not gained a maths qualification when she was younger, Vanessa wanted to improve her numerical skills to help with the day-to-day running of her craft business, particularly when calculating percentages and sales discounts.
For Lindsey, Vanessa’s classmate, returning to education was an important step towards a new career working with children. Lindsey joined the college to study GCSE English and Functional Skills Maths as part of her plan to progress on to an Access to Higher Education course. After spending some time out of work, she wanted to refresh her qualifications and build her confidence before moving on to the next stage of her studies, and ultimately, her career.
