Performing Arts students from Warrington & Vale Royal College shine in a spectacular production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat!

Earlier this month, performing arts students from Warrington & Vale Royal College took to the stage to deliver a vibrant production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. The production’s success highlights another triumph for the technical college’s Advanced Creative & Digital Skills Academy and is testament to the high-quality training that young people receive by studying in this purpose-built creative hub.

The show’s run consisted of matinee productions for local primary schools and two sold-out evening performances for the general public. This Joseph production marked the first time the college has staged an ‘opera-style’ musical where the entire show is sung throughout. It presented its own unique challenges for students, requiring a high level of commitment, vocal stamina, and performance skill. Nonetheless, both students and staff worked incredibly hard throughout the rehearsal process, and the performances were met with an overwhelmingly positive response, with standing ovations at every show.

This exciting opportunity to perform Lloyd Webber’s famous musical was made possible through the college’s ongoing Schools Partnership with Liverpool Empire and LW Theatres (Lloyd Webber’s theatre company). The partnership has proven highly beneficial for students this year, opening the door to a range of valuable experiences. Students have already had the chance to perform on the iconic Liverpool Empire’s stage and gain first-hand insight into a professional theatre environment. Looking ahead, several students have also been selected to take part in the Liverpool Empire’s Work in Theatre Week this July, where they will gain hands-on experience across a variety of departments while shadowing industry professionals.

Performing Arts tutor, Rachel Burchell, stated: “We are incredibly proud of what our students achieved with Joseph. We had goosebumps at every performance, and it was incredibly rewarding to watch months of hard work come together in such a successful production. As tutors, experiences like this remind us exactly why we do this job.”

The college is incredibly proud of all staff and students who contributed to the production. Its success highlights the strong, collaborative spirit within the performing arts department and shows the dedication, commitment, and hard work demonstrated by students throughout the process. Notably, former Sir Thomas Boteler C of E High School pupil Dylan Little, who played the titular role of Joseph, has recently been recognised for his dedication to his studies and is set to receive an award at the college’s prestigious Further Education Awards on 18th June 2026.
