Studying an apprenticeship with Warrington & Vale Royal College: Olivia Stanton

Olivia Stanton Hairdressing Apprentice

17-year-old Level 2 Hair Professionals Apprentice, Olivia Stanton, knew the apprenticeship route was for her after discovering early on in her school life that she much preferred hands-on, practical learning.

Olivia had always had a passion for the hair industry and knew from a young age she wanted a career in hairdressing. She began gaining work experience in a local hairdressing salon, from the age of 11, helping out however she could at weekends or school holidays. When she turned 14, she began working part time in the salon on Saturdays, beginning to develop some skills and building relationships with clients. With a range of experience already behind her, Olivia's route into the industry was clear, and she enrolled onto our Level 2 Hair Professionals Apprenticeship with Colin Williams Hairdressing in Latchford in order to start her career as a full-time hairdresser.

Olivia's favourite bit of her apprenticeship is getting to learn new techniques and methods from her fellow apprentices. Whilst she learns a lot from her employer and tutors, she values being able to compare her approach to other students' to further develop her skills. She has thoroughly enjoyed her course so far and has loved getting to expand on her knowledge and going more in-depth on the basic skills such as cutting and styling.

She praised her tutors saying: "My tutors are great and support you in any way they can. I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone who prefers a more practical approach. My apprenticeship has given me so much confidence and has allowed me to gain so much more experience of the industry."

Having already gained salon experience, Olivia has strengthened her client management skills but enjoys the freedom coming to college gives her to try new things, building her confidence and skills needed for her role.

With plenty of apprenticeship options to choose from, there are courses to suit all industries and employers.
