Warrington & Vale Royal College students partake in exciting live brief with 10:10 Games

Warrington & Vale Royal College has once again demonstrated its position as one of the region’s leading destinations for aspiring games designers, following the successful completion of an ambitious live brief by its Level 3 Games Design & Animation students in partnership with local videogames developer 10:10 Games.

As part of the ongoing partnership between the college and 10:10 Games, students were challenged to design a three-minute game slice that creatively merged elements of the developer’s first game, Funko Fusion, with the style and humour of The Simpsons. The live brief tested both the technical skills and creative vision of the students, who responded with professionalism and passion.

Working in teams, students developed exciting game concepts, supported by detailed pitches and presentations. Their final responses to the brief were showcased at the college’s state-of-the-art Barton Theatre, delivered in front of seven senior members of the 10:10 Games team, including studio co-founder and college fellow Arthur Parsons.

Throughout the process, students received regular mentoring from the team at 10:10 Games. These interactions encouraged students to understand the standards and expectations of a modern games studio, as well as helping to build the students’ confidence and allowing them to network with key industry contacts.

Tutor Damien Coulson reflected on the impact of the collaboration: “The opportunities our students gain through this partnership with 10:10 Games are second to none. Some university students don’t experience anything this close to real-world development. Our students leave college not only with the right skills but with industry experience and connections that give them a real edge.”

The project also received high praise from students themselves. Former Sir Thomas Boteler C of E High School student Harry Farmer commented: “Working on a live brief that combined Funko Fusion and The Simpsons was an amazing experience and fun as well as challenging! The feedback we got has helped me understand how to work to a brief and prepared me for the realities of working in game development.”

Former Golborne High School pupil Jack Crossley added: “After a year at a different college, I joined this course because I saw the amazing work of former students and the college’s links with key industry names like 10:10 Games. It’s been the best decision I’ve made. I feel like this project has confirmed that I’m on the right path to my dream career.”
