What is the course about?
This level 3 apprenticeship trains individuals to conduct maintenance of engineering plant machinery, apparatus, fixtures and equipment across a range of industries including energy, manufacturing, processing, utilities, and leisure/entertainment. Engineering Maintenance Technicians ensure equipment operates reliably through planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, diagnosing issues and restoring or optimising performance.

What will I learn?
Core learning includes planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, diagnostics, safety compliance, and system optimisation. Pathway-specific skills will vary depending on the chosen discipline.
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will undertake an end-point assessment (EPA) to test your skills, knowledge, and behaviours. Successfully completing the EPA allows you to achieve the apprenticeship standard and gain access to professional recognition.
How is the apprenticeship delivered?
Apprentices will attend college one day per week for one academic year and complete the remaining training on site. Bespoke options may also be available.
What will the course lead on to?
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you may progress on to one of the following:Â
- Full-time employment in a variety of engineering roles, or
- A Level 4 or Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in engineering or manufacturing.

You will be allocated a designated tutor to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Wellbeing Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

What are the entry requirements?
Entry requirements for this apprenticeship programme are GCSE grades 9-4, or level 2 functional skills qualifications in English and maths. We will consider those who need to resit either an English or maths qualification, however those that need to resit both will not meet the entry requirements for this apprenticeship programme. Â
If you are required to resit either English or maths, you will be invited to undertake an initial assessment. If deemed suitable, you must be willing to achieve your level 2 English/maths qualification before the end of the apprenticeship programme as part of your study.Â
