Engineering Maintenance Technicians ensure equipment operates reliably through planned, preventative, and reactive maintenance, diagnosing issues and restoring or optimising performance.
Why should I choose the course?
- It offers two specialist pathways and strong employment prospects with employer-backed funding:
- Electrical and Control & Instrumentation Engineering Maintenance Technician
- Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Maintenance Technician
These options allow you to tailor your skills to industry needs.
- The occupation is in high demand across multiple sectors, providing strong employment prospects.
- You will develop advanced technical skills that employers rely on to maintain safe, efficient operational environments.
What will I learn?
During this course, initial core learning includes planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, diagnostics, safety compliance, and system optimisation. You will then move onto more advanced study, learning pathway-specific skills which will vary depending on the chosen discipline.
How is the apprenticeship delivered?
Apprentices will attend college one day per week for one academic year and complete the remaining training on site. Bespoke options may also be available, upon request of your employer.
You will normally work around 30 hours per week, and no more than 40 hours if you are under 18. This includes any training time at college (off-the-job) as well as the on-the-job training you will complete with your employer.Â
What will the course lead on to?
Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you may progress on to one of the following:Â
- Full-time employment in a variety of engineering roles, or
- A Level 4 or Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in engineering or manufacturing.
What support is available?
You will be allocated a designated tutor to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Wellbeing Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.
