What is the course about?
If you love working with children and want to build a career in early years, this course is a great starting point. You’ll learn all about how babies and young children grow, develop, and learn from birth up to 7 years old, with a focus on the early years (0–5).
This qualification gives you both the theory and hands-on skills needed to work in nurseries, preschools, or childcare settings. It fully meets the Department for Education’s criteria for Early Years Practitioners and aligns with what employers in the childcare sector are looking for.
Why should I choose the course?
This qualification is ideal for learners looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years.
As part of this course you will attend industry placement in an early years setting 1 day a week and complete a minimum of 250 hours. Your assessor will come in to the setting and carryout observations to ensure that you are meeting the Early Years Practitioner criteria.
What will I learn?
Throughout this course, you will gain the skills and knowledge needed to support the care, development, and learning of babies and young children in Early Years settings. Topics include safeguarding, health and safety, equality and inclusion, supporting play and routines, promoting positive behaviour, and working with children with SEND. You will also learn how to help children prepare for school and work effectively with families and professionals.

What are the entry requirements?
Minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including maths and/or English, or successful completion of a Level 1 qualification. Students will be expected to continue to study towards a GCSE Grade 4 English & maths if not already achieved.
