Warrington & Vale Royal College students make Warrington Wolves’ women’s first team

Two students from Warrington & Vale Royal College, Imogen Roberts and Talicia Blythe, have achieved a monumental milestone by earning places on the Warrington Wolves Women’s First Team. To commemorate their incredible achievement, their framed shirts now hang proudly in the Sport, Military & Emergency Services Academy, inspiring current and future students to dream big and aim high.

For both Imogen and Talicia, their journey to the Wolves’ first team has been one of hard work and determination. Imogen, who started playing rugby in her early primary school years with Woolston Rovers, reflected on her pathway to success:
"Talicia and I both played for the Warrington Wolves community team where we were told about trails for the academy. They must have been pleased with our performance, because we both then received unconditional offers for the first team!"

Imogen credits the sport course at Warrington & Vale Royal College for shaping her both as an athlete and a person. She shared:
"My favourite thing about studying sports at Warrington & Vale Royal College is the variety. We learn everything from coaching and mentoring to nutrition and exercise psychology and I’ve had so many amazing opportunities, like visiting the English Institute of Sport and working with children with disabilities. Seeing how sport can positively impact people’s lives is incredible!"

For Talicia, her love for rugby began later but grew quickly. She explained:
"I started playing rugby in 2019 when I was asked to join my high school team. I fell in love with the game and decided to take it further, which led me to join Warrington Wolves’ community club in 2020, where I met Imogen."

The decision to display Imogen and Talicia’s framed shirts in S Block is not just a celebration of their achievements but also a reminder to all students of what is possible with dedication and perseverance. Imogen said:
"It’s a proud feeling having my shirt on display. Being able to see it every day is a reminder of what a great achievement I made. The support I’ve had from all my tutors has been amazing." Talicia echoed these sentiments, saying:
"Having my shirt on the wall is a constant reminder of what I’ve achieved, and hopefully, it inspires others to chase their dreams too."

Matt Bold, Curriculum Manager for Sport, Military & Emergency Services, praised the duo for their dedication and the example they’ve set:
"We are incredibly proud of Imogen and Talicia for their dedication and achievements, both on the field and in their studies. Their framed shirts serve not only as a celebration of their success but also as an inspiration to current and future students. We hope seeing these shirts in the academy motivates others to strive for excellence and pursue their dreams with the same passion and commitment."

With their framed shirts displayed for all to see, Imogen and Talicia have not only left their legacy at the college but are paving the way for the next generation of students to follow in their footsteps—both on and off the field.
