Introducing A Level Psychology at Warrington & Vale Royal College for September 2026!

Warrington & Vale Royal College is celebrating the launch of an exciting new A Level pathway for school leavers, delivered through its multi‑million‑pound Health & Social Care Academy. As Warrington’s leading further education provider for Health & Social Care, the college is committed to giving young people the knowledge, confidence and real‑world experience they need to progress into university, apprenticeships or skilled employment in these high‑demand sectors.

New to the college’s already comprehensive offer for school leavers is A Level Psychology, a subject that is highly popular with students and widely respected by universities and employers. With several study routes available, the new pathways enable more young people to access A Level learning while benefiting from the exceptional facilities and specialist teaching available at the college.

One option is a two‑year combined programme for school leavers and students aged 17–18 who have achieved grade 4 or above in English, maths and science at GCSE. This powerful pathway brings together A Level Psychology, Level 3 Health & Social Care (AAQ) and Level 3 Early Childhood Development (AAQ). On completion, students will achieve the equivalent of three A Levels, giving them the flexibility to progress to university, an apprenticeship or skilled employment.

For students who may not yet have achieved GCSE English or maths, an alternative one‑year AS Level Psychology pathway is available alongside either Level 3 Childhood Studies or Level 3 Health & Social Care, and students will retake their essential GCSE qualification. This route can be extended into a full A Level in the second year or can lead directly into employment or an apprenticeship after just one year.

Each of these pathways will be taught in the college’s Health & Social Care Academy (HSCA), which has been developed to address local skills needs by training the next generation of health and social care professionals, while also supporting those already working in the sector to upskill. Established with a £1 million investment from the Town Deal and supported by Warrington & Halton NHS Trust, Warrington Borough Council and a wide range of voluntary and private‑sector partners, the HSCA offers a highly immersive learning environment alongside valuable industry placement opportunities.

Students in this specialist facility benefit from strong partnerships with local employers, care providers and health and social care settings, ensuring their learning reflects real workforce needs and future career opportunities.

Do you know a caring and compassionate young person who aspires to have a rewarding career in the health, social or childcare sectors? Warrington & Vale Royal College can help get them there. Applications are open for September 2026. Find out more by clicking the buttons below.
