The WVR Dance Academy will run at the college’s Warrington campus from 5.00pm until 6.00pm for three consecutive Thursdays in November and December, starting on Thursday 21st and concluding on Thursday 5th
December. Participants can look forward to exclusive tutoring with the college’s award-winning dance tutor, Shannen Stocks, who was recently crowned the World Dance Council’s (WDC) Vice Champion and the International Dance Teachers’ Association’s Medallist of the Year.
Shannen, who began her dance career as a student at the college, has won a string of medals over the years alongside completing her teacher training, embodying the college’s commitment to providing its students with industry expert tutors. Following the success of last year’s WVR Dance Academy, Shannen is once again heading up this exciting opportunity for local young people, allowing them to get acquainted with the college’s vibrant dance courses for school leavers. She said:
“The WVR Dance Academy is not to be missed. I encourage anyone in Year 10 or 11 with an interest in dance to come along and enjoy these workshops. At the very least, you will learn tonnes of new skills, make friends and have fun, but you might also discover your perfect next step towards a career in performing arts!”
Under expert guidance, participants will explore a variety of dance techniques and styles, covering contemporary, strength and conditioning, and improvisation, while working on a renowned dance piece inspired by acclaimed choreographers Akram Khan and Hofesh Shechter. Set within the college’s multi-million pound Advanced Creative & Digital Skills Academy (ACDS), the workshops take place in a state-of-the-art theatre and dance studio equipped with sprung floors, advanced lighting and sound systems, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors.
This series of workshops have been designed to challenge and inspire those involved, while giving them the opportunity to develop their confidence and consider turning their dancing dreams into a qualification at the college after completing their GCSEs.
Year 10 and 11 pupils are welcome to register for these fun and inclusive workshops, regardless of prior experience or ability. Places at this unique academy are completely free of charge and filling up quickly, so please visit wvr.ac.uk/danceacademy to find out more and register for a place today.
