One of the most important elements of the college’s sharp careers focus is its Careers Team, who offer support and guidance to students in a variety of ways. The team provide a drop-in service and one-to-one appointments, arrange for employers and higher education providers to visit students, help students prepare for recruitment and selection tests, and much more. Through this work, all students are provided with specialised support with their decision making and future career planning, whether this be help crafting their CVs and UCAS statements, or improving their self-awareness and research skills.
This hard work was recently recognised and celebrated by Higher Horizons - a government funded initiative to improve young people’s access to university and other forms of higher education. Higher Horizons work in partnership with education providers to deliver outreach events such as guidance and curriculum enhancement workshops. One such provider working in partnership with Higher Horizons is Warrington & Vale Royal College, who is delighted that its Careers Leader, Fionnula (Finn) Byrne, has been honoured for her efforts.
Finn says: “It’s lovely to be recognised as Advisor of the Year by Higher Horizons and the Chester Hub. There is a lot of work that goes into the organisation of the ‘core programme’ to ensure it runs smoothly and that our level 3 students have access to the required information to make an informed decision about Higher Education.”
Warrington & Vale Royal College is delighted that Finn’s hard work has been recognised and applauded by Higher Horizons and is looking forward to another amazing academic year which will see its Careers Team support thousands of students in planning for their future careers.
