Former Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice Emily takes on a new role to inspire the next generation of apprentices!

When deciding on the next steps for her future career, former Great Sankey High School pupil, Emily Flannery, knew she wanted to gain workplace experience whist studying and furthering her knowledge, so chose to study an apprenticeship as opposed to the traditional university route. After achieving outstanding grades of A*, A, B in her A Levels, Emily felt that an apprenticeship would allow her to gain this experience and a new qualification whilst earning at the same time.
Eager to find an apprenticeship within the business industry, Emily found the vacancy through the government website. After researching the course she would study at Warrington & Vale Royal College, she knew this was the apprenticeship for her and felt the qualification she would gain would be applicable to many different roles throughout her career and would help establish a good foundation of knowledge and experience.
Emily didn’t want to choose between experience or further study, and felt the apprenticeship route allowed her to fully immerse herself into a work environment without having to sacrifice either of these things. Her apprenticeship has given her the opportunity to shadow different areas of her organisation, attend training courses and complete a project of her choice within her off the job hours which she feels has allowed her to develop the most as a professional.
Emily now works as an Education and Professional Development Administrator for NHS Bridgewater Community Healthcare Foundation Trust, choosing to stay on with the trust for a full-time role following completion of her apprenticeship. Her role is to support all staff within the organisation access their mandatory and role-specific training as well as furthering their development. In addition to her admin-based role, she also supports and co-ordinates monthly new starter inductions, attend careers events and is a part of the trust’s coaching network. She enjoys getting to support other apprentices and new starters as part of her new role and spends her time encouraging young people to consider the apprenticeship route.
