Rediscovering a Passion for Writing Through Adult Learning

Hollie chose to study the part-time Introduction to Novel Writing course at Warrington & Vale Royal College to nurture her passion for writing, expand her creative skillset and explore a new form of self-expression. As a UX Writer, Hollie is experienced in crafting content for highly focused digital environments, but was keen to step beyond the constraints of technical and user-centred writing to develop her own distinctive creative voice through an adult creative writing course.

Hollie Marshall

After hearing about the adult course through word of mouth within her local community, Hollie explored the college website to learn more. She quickly recognised an opportunity to combine her longstanding love of language, storytelling and communication, making the course an ideal next step in both her personal and professional development.

Throughout her career, Hollie has built extensive experience across a range of communication-focused roles, including translation, marketing and user experience writing. With such a strong foundation in language and content creation, the Introduction to Novel Writing course provided the perfect opportunity to channel her expertise into a more creative discipline within a supportive adult learning environment.

For Hollie, the adult course has offered far more than an introduction to fiction writing. The creative techniques, storytelling methods and fresh perspectives she has gained are already influencing her professional work, while also allowing her to rediscover the enjoyment of writing for herself and reconnect with the creativity that first inspired her love of words.

One of the highlights of Hollie's experience has been the welcoming and encouraging atmosphere at the college. She particularly values the support and guidance provided by her tutor, saying, "My tutor provides really positive and timely feedback and is super encouraging!"

The flexible part-time timetable has also enabled Hollie to fit her studies around a busy professional career, allowing her to travel directly from work to college and continue investing in her personal development.

Since beginning the adult course, Hollie has grown significantly in confidence when sharing her ideas and creative work. Supported by her tutor and college staff throughout her journey, she has felt empowered to experiment with new techniques, develop her craft and pursue her creative ambitions.

Hollie has especially enjoyed returning to the classroom to study a subject she is truly passionate about. She would highly recommend Warrington & Vale Royal College and its adult creative writing courses to anyone looking to develop their creativity, strengthen their writing skills and discover the rewarding experience of lifelong learning.
