Thomas Kemp, a dedicated student with a passion for hands-on learning, is currently enrolled on the HNC Electrical & Electronic Engineering course at Warrington & Vale Royal College. Having previously completed Level 3 General Engineering, Thomas shares his journey towards a career in civil engineering and how his experience at the college has played a pivotal role in shaping his future.

Thomas, a former Bridgewater High School pupil, initially considered a level 1 electrical installation course but ultimately decided to pursue engineering due to its lucrative prospects. Expressing his preference for practical work over exams, he found that the technical course at Warrington & Vale Royal College offered a better platform for mastering his craft.

When asked about the best aspect of studying at the college, Thomas highlighted the emphasis on practical work and superior facilities for hands-on learning. He believes that focusing on one technical course allows students to concentrate on honing their skills, providing a strong foundation for future success.

Thomas acknowledges the guidance he received from his college tutor, who played a crucial role in steering him towards his current path. Initially considering an apprenticeship, Thomas changed course after realising the available roles didn't align with his goals. Opting for further study at university, he chose civil engineering for its practical and interesting nature.

Reflecting on his learning experience, Thomas notes that his course, focused on mastering the craft of engineering, has provided him with a robust foundation in subjects like engineering, maths, and physics. He believes that this specialised focus will give him a competitive advantage in his future career.

Thomas's aspirations include becoming a civil engineer, and he eagerly anticipates the challenges and opportunities that come with higher-level study. The HNC course, according to him, has adequately prepared him for university, bridging the gap between level 3 and higher education.

When asked if he would recommend the course to others, Thomas was hugely positive. He praises the practical nature of the course, the supportive environment created by both peers and teachers, and the overall professionalism of the college. Thomas particularly highlights the HNC as an excellent bridge between studying at level 3 and university, offering ample opportunities for practical work and instilling confidence in his abilities as he progresses to the next academic level.

Thomas Kemp stands as a testament to the success of Warrington & Vale Royal College in nurturing aspiring engineers, providing them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in their chosen field.
