Business Engagement Officer (Employer Engagement & Industry Placements)

Employer Engagement & Industry Placements

Do you love talking to people, building relationships and making things happen?

We’re looking for a confident, organised and personable individual to join our award-winning team and help connect our students with employers and the world of work.

This isn't a role where you need to know everything from day one. We're looking for the right person first someone who wants to make a real impact for students, someone with the confidence to pick up the phone and build relationships. We can teach you the rest.

What you'll be doing

You'll be the link between our college, our students and local employers.

Your role will include:

  • Building great relationships with businesses and employers.
  • Finding exciting opportunities for our students, including industry placements, work experience, visits, live projects and guest speakers.
  • Managing your own caseload and making sure opportunities are matched to the right students.
  • Keeping on top of your workload, deadlines and targets.
  • Going out to networking events and meeting new people.
  • Using social media and other creative ways to connect with employers.
  • Working with our curriculum teams to make sure what we're teaching reflects what employers actually need.
  • Keeping records up to date using our placement software.
  • Helping showcase the college and the fantastic opportunities we create for our students.
  • Making sure placements are safe, appropriate and meet our safeguarding requirements.

Who are we looking for?

Honestly, we're more interested in who you are and what you can bring than whether you've done exactly this job before.

You'll probably be a great fit if you are:

  • Confident – you're happy speaking to new people, picking up the phone and representing the college.
  • Organised – you can manage your own workload and keep on top of multiple things at once.
  • A people person – you enjoy building genuine relationships and making connections.
  • Proactive – you don't wait to be told what to do. You spot an opportunity and go for it.
  • Resilient – if someone says no, you don't give up.
  • A good communicator – you can talk comfortably to employers, students and colleagues.
  • Positive and professional – you're someone people enjoy working with.
  • Good with IT – you're comfortable learning new systems and using technology.
  • Target-focused – you enjoy having something to work towards and seeing results.
  • A good person – reliable, approachable, supportive and someone we can trust to do the right thing.

You don't need to be an expert in education, placements or employer engagement. If you've got the right attitude, confidence and work ethic, we'll help you learn the rest.

What you'll need

  • A Level 3 qualification.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Experience of working with customers, businesses, employers or other external organisations.
  • The ability to organise yourself and manage competing priorities.
  • A driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Experience in business development, employer engagement, education or working to targets would be useful – but it's not all about ticking boxes.

Why join us?

You'll be joining an award-winning team that genuinely cares about what it does.

We work hard, support each other and are passionate about giving our students outstanding opportunities and experiences.

You'll have the opportunity to:

  • Build a career and develop your skills.
  • Meet and work with a huge range of interesting businesses and people.
  • Make a genuine difference to young people's futures.
  • Bring your ideas and personality to the role.
  • Learn from an experienced and supportive team.
  • Be part of a college that is ambitious, forward-thinking and committed to excellence.

We also offer an excellent salary and benefits package, which includes:

  • A competitive salary
  • Generous annual leave entitlement (48 days for Business Support Staff, inclusive of bank holidays and Christmas closure days, pro rata for part time)
  • Occupational pension scheme
  • Employee benefits package
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Free on-site parking
  • Full programme of training and mentoring
  • Induction programme and buddy scheme
  • Flexible working, where appropriate
  • Menopause friendly

If you're confident, organised, positive and good with people, we'd love to hear from you.

You don't need to have the perfect CV.

We can teach skills. We can't teach personality, attitude and the ability to build great relationships.

If that sounds like you, apply and come and meet us.
