What is the course about?

Step Up to Level 3 is specifically for students who want to progress onto a Level 3 course but may be undecided on a specific route. This course will provide students with opportunities to develop their study skills as well as knowledge and skills for the workplace. This course is unique as it will tailor learning to the needs of the group developing a bespoke curriculum that students are interested in.

Delivered by expert teachers this programme will broaden options as students will cover a variety of topics and specialist areas.

Topics covered will include:

  • Skills for successful study
  • Work placement and skills for the workplace
  • Digital and IT skills
  • Subject specific topics bespoke to need
  • English and Maths

Students will also need to re-sit English or maths if they have not achieved a grade 4.

Why should I choose the course?

This course will help support students to decide on a future Level 3 course but will also give them the option to explore apprenticeships and employment as their next steps. The course will equip students with the knowledge and skills to make a fully informed decision about their future. The course design is unique and will be personalised according to needs of the students.

The course has been developed to support students who are unsure about their future choices and need more support to ensure they are choosing the correct path.

On this course, you will learn:

  • Skills for successful study including referencing, exam strategies, and problem solving
  • Knowledge and skills for the workplace
  • Personalised learning - students’ interests will drive the curriculum
  • Build confidence, self-esteem and self -discovery
  • Develop English and maths skills 
  • IT skills.

What will the course lead on to?

This course is mainly designed for students planning to move on to a Level 3 course, but it also prepares them for an apprenticeships or employment. The curriculum is based on students' interests and is tailored to their needs.

Are there any links with industry and university?

Students will be expected to complete a work placement through either self-sourcing or support from the college. Students will participate in visiting speakers from industry and will have opportunity to visit universities.

What support is available?

Students will be allocated a Progress Coach who will provide students with support to help them succeed on the study programme and progress on to their chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a welfare team that is on hand to offer guidance, support, and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
