What is the apprenticeship about?

The occupation covered by this standard is Construction Site Supervisor and typical job titles can include: Assistant Site Manager, Assistant Supervisor or Construction Site Supervisor.

In the case of SME construction companies the roles are likely to include Site Manager or Site Supervisor. They are associated with the supervision of specialist contractors and workers on construction projects and are based on construction sites with occasional time in offices.

What will I learn?

You will learn the main duties and tasks of a Construction Site Supervisor which are:

  • Supervision of specialist contractors
  • The control of health and safety standards on construction projects
  • Recording, control and reporting of progress on a construction project
  • The minimisation of the environmental impact of construction projects
  • Control of quality of works on a construction project
  • Assisting commercial staff with the monitoring of costs on a construction project

The candidate will undertake an end point assessment to test their skills, knowledge and behaviours to achieve the apprenticeship standard and have access to professional engineering recognition.

On completion you will gain a Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the industry’s recognised professional bodies meeting the educational requirements for Technician status or the equivalent level of membership.

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

As a Higher apprentice you will learn the skills, knowledge and behaviours required by attending tutored sessions at Warrington and Vale Royal College and gaining valuable industrial experience with your employer.

You will normally work around 30 hours per week, and no more than 40 hours (if you are under 18), which includes any training time at college (off the job) as well as on the job with your employer.

You will be required to attend college one day per week.

What will the apprenticeship lead on to?

After successfully completing the apprenticeship, you can develop your skills further by progressing on to the college’s HND programme. The programme also supports career development opportunities for those already employed in industry.

Are there any links with industry and university?

You will normally work around 30 hours per week, and no more than 40 hours (if you are under 18), which includes any training time at college (off the job) as well as on the job with your employer.

What support is available?

You will be allocated a designated apprenticeship coach to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.
