What is the course about?
This course will provide a good foundational knowledge of DIY basic car maintenance. It's ideal if you are looking to learn about servicing vehicles at home, or are considering a career change as a mechanic.
Taught in our Motor Vehicle Workshop, a variety of topics will be covered through practical demonstrations followed by the opportunity to practice yourself with support from the tutor and your classmates.Â
Please note, you will require a strong pair of shoes or boots to protect your toes.

This course is a great first step and offers a solid foundation for motor vehicle maintenance, developing a range of hand-skills and knowledge.
What will I learn?
Over the 6 weeks, you will be develop skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Health and safety
- Removing and replacing lighting components
- Completing vehicle health checks
- Using various tools and equipment.
What will the course lead on to?
On completion of the course, you should be able to complete basic car maintenance tasks yourself. You could also continue your studies on another motor vehicle course at the college, such as Pre-MOT Checks and Servicing. You may wish to progress to an accredited qualification, like Level 2 Vehicle Maintenance.
