Warrington & Vale Royal College stands against social injustice. #BlackLivesMatter

We take our role as educators very seriously and we encourage our learners to understand and respect each other. Our tutorial and enrichment programme raises awareness of, and actively challenges, social injustice and the ongoing fight for social, political and economic equality. We stand together as a college community in feeling pain and a righteous sense of anger about the recent events in the USA. The Black Lives Matter movement has shown again the need for educators to discuss racism and injustice even if it feels uncomfortable for some. We know that to be part of the solution, we need to acknowledge the problem. In early June we curated and disseminated a variety of materials associated with the Black Lives Matter movement and we are supporting staff and learners to engage with them actively through Google Classroom. The use of these materials to educate our learners about the oppression of, and systemic racism towards, black people supports the aims of the Black Lives Matter movement. Materials and resources about the Black Lives Matter movement can be accessed here: Black Lives Matter - Resource List We know that there is always more to do and we would invite our learners, staff, parents, carers, employers and other stakeholders to talk to us about anything that concerns them and/or with ideas about the ways in which we may improve what we do. We stand in solidarity with the black communities at home and around the world. Black lives matter at Warrington & Vale Royal College and they always will.
