Be at the forefront of innovation by studying for a career in Science and Engineering

There has never been a better time to pursue a career in Science and Engineering. As technology rapidly develops, the demand for skilled workers in these sectors is growing. According to a 2019 EngineeringUK report, 124,000 engineers and technicians will be needed annually up to 2024, while 79,000 engineering-related roles are expected to be made per year, to cope with demand. In the Science sector, there is a need for more young people to take science-based education and training. Katherine Mathieson, CEO of the British Science Association states thatdiversityin these sectors is a real issue. Currently, the science and engineering sectors are not representative of the UK society that they serve. There is a drive to improve diversity by attracting talented people from all groups. Whilst the pandemic has had a devastating impact on a number of key industries, the Science and Engineering sector has played a vital part in the fight and recovery from this crisis; from developing testing kits, manufacturing ventilators and PPE to developing a vaccine. In their response to the current crisis, scientists and engineers have demonstrated their expertise, agility and innovation and lessons learned from the crisis will continue to inform the recovery and protect against future outbreaks, says Dr Leevers, CEO of EngineeringUK. At Warrington & Vale Royal College, we encourage students to come and study on our fascinating Science and Engineering courses. An Ofsted rated Good college, we have campuses based in Warrington and Winsford. With many high-profile employers based locally, including AstraZeneca in Macclesfield, ThermoFisher Scientific in Warrington and Roberts Bakery in Northwich, there is no shortage of opportunities within the Warrington and Cheshire region. Last year, we were pleased to launch our dedicated AMET Centre at Winsford campus and we will be launching AMET at Warrington campus in time for the September 2021 term. This Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Centre will serve the region as a specialist centre for materials measurement, testing and analysis and enhance the provision of digital and manufacturing skills training across Cheshire and Warrington. We are working closely with local employers to train young people to meet the demand and fill the skills gap. Applicants are encouraged to register for our upcoming Virtual Open Evenings where our knowledgeable Science and Engineering tutors will be hosting live Q&A sessions to help you explore your options in these diverse and exciting industries.
