“Doing an apprenticeship has given me a huge head start in life. I am set up for my career and I’ve only just turned 17!” Says Alex Grant, former Great Sankey High School pupil who has achieved a highly sought-after position with prestige car garage David Paul of Warrington through her motor vehicle course at the college.
When Alex joined the college’s well-known motor vehicle department, she quickly began to stand out for her ambition and solid work ethic. She took the opportunity of an industry placement with David Paul of Warrington, excited for the chance to work on top-of-the-range German make and models, as well as recognising it as a key interaction with a potential future employer.
After two days and a trial shift, Alex had secured herself an offer of an apprenticeship and now spends just one day a week with the college’s expert tutors to build up her theoretical knowledge. Preferring this hybrid learning style, Alex says: “I really believe apprenticeships can be for everyone – it’s definitely what suits me best! I was a bit daunted about going into what people think is a male-dominated sector at first, especially as an apprentice, but I have fit in straight away and think that it is something that more young people like me should consider after high school.”
Warrington & Vale Royal College offers more than 20 different apprenticeship courses, working with hundreds of employers to provide the young people of Warrington, Winsford and beyond with a huge range of lucrative opportunities from age 16.
