Level 3 Applied Science student Lois Barnes celebrates her university offer after a summer of success at Liverpool John Moores University!

Lois Barnes is a driven and ambitious Level 3 Applied Science student formerly from Penketh High School. Having joined the college for the opportunity to study a broad and largely practical-based science course that would allow her to explore the sector while getting some meaningful industry experiences, she could never have imagined that she would end up being selected from hundreds of applicants to join Liverpool John Moores University’s prestigious ‘Summer University’ programme.

During the programme, Lois found herself immersed in the vibrant world of university life. She resided in student halls, forged new friendships, and discovered how exciting and diverse a future in higher education could be. It’s no wonder that, upon returning to college for her final year, Lois was more determined than ever to pursue her passion for environmental science and now aspires to go to Liverpool John Moores University to do so.

Central to Lois's journey was the unwavering support and guidance of her tutor, Caroline. Caroline's encouragement played a pivotal role in inspiring Lois to consider higher education. Lois said: “With the support of my tutor, Caroline, and the amazing experiences I have been offered while at the college, I've gained the confidence to chase my dream and commit myself to being the first in my family to go to university! These experiences I have had have given me a great insight into the science sector and student life, and cemented that this is definitely the industry I see a future for myself in."
