Stephanie is passionate about helping others and has already spent some time working in the sector as a healthcare assistant, but she wanted the opportunity to progress further and make an even greater difference to people's lives.
Our one-year Access course in Warrington has provided the perfect pathway, enabling her to work towards the UCAS points needed to progress to university and pursue a degree as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). Looking ahead, Stephanie hopes to complete her ODP degree and build a rewarding career in healthcare, with ambitions to enjoy a successful professional journey.
Feeling supported has been a key part of Stephanie’s experience at college. She says tutors and staff are always approachable and encouraging, helping to build her confidence and supporting her every step of the way. Reflecting on her experience as an adult student so far, Stephanie says: "The tutors are very friendly, honest, and helpful with the workload, and the friends I've made on the course help a lot too. As well as this, the class times are convenient which really helps it gives me chance to get my little boy to day care and pick him up.”
Although only at the beginning of her course, Stephanie has already developed valuable academic skills, including academic writing and referencing, while also learning how AI can be used effectively to support study. One of the highlights for her has been learning about stem cells during human physiology lessons.
Returning to education has also changed her perspective on adult learning. Having experienced the benefits first-hand, she now recognises how valuable college can be in helping adults progress towards their career goals and would encourage others to take the leap into learning.
