After more than eight years working as a healthcare assistant in the community, Chloe decided to return to education to progress her career and pursue her ambition of becoming a midwife. The Access to HE course at Warrington & Vale Royal College provided the ideal pathway into higher education, offering the flexibility she needed to balance study with work and family life.
Chloe describes her time at college as both challenging and supportive, helping her build strong academic skills and confidence ahead of university. She particularly valued the support from tutors and the opportunity to develop skills such as academic writing, referencing and independent learning, which prepared her well for the demands of higher education.
Now at university, Chloe has completed placements across community, antenatal, postnatal and birth suite settings, gaining hands‑on experience in maternity care. So far, she has supported the births of seven babies, and her placement experiences have confirmed that midwifery is the right career path for her.
Looking ahead, Chloe hopes to qualify as a midwife within the NHS and continue developing her skills to support women and families. She continues to recommend the Access to HE course to anyone considering nursing or midwifery, particularly those returning to education.
