Brandon's passion for healthcare becomes a career reality

Brandon Wasmuth joined Warrington & Vale Royal College to study Access to HE: Paramedic Science, with a passion for healthcare that was sparked by his experience working in the ambulance service. This role helped him realise that a career in healthcare was his true calling, and he knew an Access course would be the perfect next step towards achieving his goal.

He says: “My tutor, Lianne, was amazing! She really understands how to teach Access students, as she was one herself, and makes things so easy to understand”. Lianne’s guidance and expertise helped Brandon thrive in his studies, building his confidence and enhancing his enthusiasm for a future in healthcare.

The Access to HE: Paramedic Science course not only prepared Brandon academically but also inspired a love of learning that he plans to carry forward. Now studying a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Operating Department Practice (ODP) at Edge Hill University, he is already considering further study, aiming to pursue a master’s degree or even a PhD to deepen his knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Last year, Brandon also achieved his GCSE English qualification through the college, an accomplishment he’s especially proud of. Reflecting on the experience, he said: “Although I had a long day of studying with Access in the day and GCSE English in the evening, my tutor Simon really made his lessons enjoyable.”

Brandon is excitedly preparing for his first placement at The Countess of Chester Hospital, marking an important milestone in his journey toward becoming a healthcare professional. We wish Brandon every success as he embarks on this next chapter!
