What is the course about?

Our exiting new T Level in Media, Broadcast and Production is suitable for anyone wanting a career working in TV or film.

This level 3 course has been developed in collaboration with employers and industry and is equivalent to 3 A Levels. Combining academic learning and industry placement, you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to enter highly skilled employment, university, or an apprenticeship.

Why should I choose the course?

This qualification will equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to enter skilled employment. You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in filming and editing within our state-of-the-art TV studio and during industry placement, and you will gain a wealth of knowledge and skills that will be invaluable for your future career.

What will I learn?

During the 2-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of media, broadcast and production occupations. The core component provides a high-level foundation of knowledge and skills that are relevant to all cccupational specialisms within this qualification.

The occupational specialism component covers the knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours required to achieve threshold competence in a chosen occupational specialism. English, mathematics and digital skills have also been embedded throughout the content to help students reach threshold competence in their chosen cccupational specialism.

Threshold competence refers to the level of competence deemed by employers as sufficient to secure employment in roles relevant to an occupational specialism. Achievement of threshold competence signals that a student is well-placed to develop full occupational competence, with further support and development, once in work.

Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:

  • The creative economy
  • The individual in the creative industries
  • Cultural context and vocabulary
  • Audience and consumer needs
  • Legal and regulatory requirements
  • Professional standards and conduct in the workplace
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion requirements
  • Research skills
  • Project methodology and administration
  • Continued professional development

What will the course lead on to?

After completing a T Level study programme, you will be able to choose between moving onto:

  • University
  • Skilled employment
  • Higher or degree level apprenticeships

Are there any links with industry and university?

Our media courses have excellent links with employers, universities and community organisations including Warrington Culture, Live Wire and local businesses, providing you with a valuable insight into the working world. You will also have the chance to meet professional guest speakers such as a production manager and representatives from universities, to learn about the different roles and career prospects available.

What support is available?

You will be allocated a progress coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress on to your chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a welfare team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
