What is the course about?
Our exciting new T-Level Healthcare Science is ideal for anyone wanting a rewarding career in the healthcare sector.
This post-16 qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels and includes 315 industry placement hours over two years, where you will gain a wealth of experience in the industry. You will also receive expert teaching and training from industry-experienced tutors that have a healthcare and science background.

This T Level programme is written in collaboration with our expert healthcare and science teaching team, industry links and employers. Through a blend of classroom work and an extended industry placement, you will be fully prepared for a highly successful career within this dynamic sector. This course will ensure you have the knowledge and skills needed to progress into skilled employment or relevant higher-level technical training.
You will learn in our state-of-the-art and fully-equipped Health & Social Care Academy, with access to all of the latest industry-relevant facilities, technology and equipment. This includes a simulation hospital ward, medical equipment and medical simulation technology that allows you to perform medical procedures. We also have a purpose-built independent living flat that can be used to develop skills that you would require to work in a community setting.
What will I learn?
In your first year, you will learn:
- Working within the health and science sectors
- Health, safety and environmental regulations in the health and science sector
- Providing person-centred care when working in healthcare science
- Infection prevention and control
- Managing information and data within the health and science sector
- Good scientific and clinical practice
- Core science concepts
- Further science concepts
In your second year, you will study:
- Contributing to patient care by supporting physiological, physical and clinical engineering services to produce reliable data and images for use by healthcare professionals in diagnosis and treatment.
- Contributing to patient care by supporting the collection of a range of specimens for analysis to aid diagnosis and treatment.
- Contributing to patient care by processing and analysing service user specimens in a range of life science areas and laboratory environments to produce reliable data sets for use by healthcare professionals in diagnosis and treatment.
You will also work on developing a range of core skills including:
- Research
- Communication
- Team working
- Problem-solving
- Reporting
- Presentation
- Reflective evaluation
What will the course lead on to?
This course will equip you with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required gain highly skilled employment within the healthcare science sector. Alternatively, you could choose to progress on to university or a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) at Warrington & Vale Royal College. Some examples of careers you may progress onto include:

Are there any links with industry and university?
As part of the Health & Social Care Academy, we have strong industry links within the community and with universities. These links provide opportunities for you to gain valuable industry placement experience.
There will be opportunities to work with a range of organisations in the private sector, community care, Warrington Borough Council, and the National Health Service (NHS).
What support is available?
You will be allocated a Progress Coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress onto your chosen career or destination. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing additional learning support if required, as well as a highly-trained Welfare Team who are on hand to offer guidance, support and advice. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and maths, or you will have needed to have successfully completed a Level 2 course and have GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above.
