Skills Bootcamps are funded*, flexible courses of up to 16 weeks, giving people the opportunity to build up sector-specific skills and fast-track to an interview with a local employer. Skills Bootcamps are part of the Government’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee, helping everyone gain skills for life.
This Skills Bootcamp has been designed in collaboration with a number of local care providers who are looking to recruit to a number of vacancies within their organisation.
On this 7-week course, you will develop the key knowledge and skills needed to fast track into a Care Worker position with a variety of health and social care employers.
The course is delivered over 2 days per week for 7 weeks (total of 10 hours per week = 70 hours in total):
Monday: 9.15am – 2.45pm
Tuesday: 9.15am – 2.45pm
The course will be delivered at the Warrington Campus in our new Health & Social Care Academy.
*The course is funded by the Department for Education and the Cheshire & Warrington Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
Why should I choose the course?
This course will be taught in our Health & Social Care Academy; a new, state-of-the-art facility featuring an independent living flat and a simulation hospital ward.
Skills Bootcamp: Care Worker can support progression into a more senior role for those already working in the care sector, as well as enabling those who want to enter the sector to fast track straight into a Care/Support Worker role. The course has been designed with employers and sector practitioners to help close the skills gaps within the health and social care sector. The skills developed on this programme will enable those who successfully complete to build their career within care and can support further progression to other senior roles in the future.
The course is designed to cover the key topics you will need to know to step into the world of care at this more senior level. Students who successfully complete the programme will be guaranteed an interview for a vacant post with one of the following local care providers: Bright Futures, SOS Care & Home Instead.
What will I learn?
As part of the Skills Bootcamp, you will cover the following topics:
- An introduction to the sector and roles within Health and Social Care, with a specific focus on senior roles within the sector and understanding these roles
- Understanding the importance of: Safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Privacy and Dignity
- Understanding types of dementia
- Understanding mental health conditions and how to work with individuals with mental health conditions
- Understanding the signs of deterioration and how to handle medication
- Prepare for working in the sector by developing communication skills, person-centred approaches and basic clinical care skills
- Exploring key legislation in the health and social care sector
- Practical activities and putting knowledge and skills into practice
- Preparing for interview: interview techniques & mock interview
