What is the course about?
If you have a basic prior knowledge of watercolour painting and wish to take your skills to the next level, this creative course is ideal for you. Learning more about the necessary equipment and techniques, you will be taking your next step into the exciting world of watercolour painting.
Why should I choose the course?
If you enjoy watercolours and love being creative, this fun short course will be perfect for you. The course will help you develop your skills and create your own unique watercolour paintings.
What will I learn?
The course will expand on your use of equipment and show you how to effectively use the equipment. You will explore techniques such as salt application and use of masking that can be applied to a wide variety of watercolour projects. The skills you acquire will give you the tools to grow with and allow you to keep continue painting at home.
You will learn:
- What equipment there is and how to use it
- How to “drop in”
- How to apply masking fluid
- How to apply salt
- How to create layers within a painting
- How to work with gum arabic.
You will be assessed informally by the tutor with the completion of set tasks, and you will have the opportunity to self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan. You will also complete a portfolio of paintings to take home with you.

What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
This course is suitable for adults aged 19 and over. No previous qualifications are needed to enrol on this course. Some basic watercolour painting knowledge would be beneficial, but not essential.
What are my funding options?
