What is the course about?
This short, next steps course is designed to build upon the basic skills, techniques and knowledge required to produce small flower arrangements
Why should I choose the course?
If you have always been interested in floristry and would like to develop your skills further, this exciting short course is perfect for you! You will be able to use your new skills and creativity to produce a range of beautiful flower arrangements to keep.
What will I learn?
Each week you will learn basic floristry techniques to produce a variety of designs including:
- Using different materials and containers to form various designs and shapes including a circular posy and triangular arrangement, hand tied, aqua packs and table decorations.
- Identify and complete two floristry techniques in each design to create and show distinction by adding your own creative flair.
- Create various designs, learning balance and design and beautiful wrapping.
- Learn and quote the Latin and common names of flowers and foliage used in your arrangements.
- Learn how and where to order flowers from, how to cost your designs, showing a breakdown of cost of materials and how to make profit including a labour charge.
You will be observed, supported, and guided throughout the course

What will the course lead on to?
We also offer other short floristry courses such as spring, summer, wedding, and Christmas floristry, which could help you expand your skills and progress onto accredited courses
Are there any links with industry and university?
The course will provide you with a range of basic skills and techniques, which you can use if you wish to start working or volunteering in a floristry shop or market.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no entry requirements for this course. However, you must be aged at least 19 and must have an interest in the course area.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
There will be no extra costs, as all basic materials are provided.
Your tutor will advise if you can bring any extra foliage or materials to enhance your designs, if you wish to do so.
If you wish to bring your own scissors (floristry or general household) you are welcome to do so, but this is not compulsory.
