What is the course about?

The is the first of our Living and Learning in the UK courses; aimed at those who do not have English as their first language and wish to improve confidence and communication skills in an informal, friendly setting whilst learning about living in the UK. You may have recently moved to the UK from overseas and would like to improve your spoken English or lack confidence when out and about and want to build on your current English skills learning about British culture and colloquialism.

Why should I choose the course?

Perhaps you don't get much opportunity to speak English at home which may be affecting your confidence, or you want to improve your conversational skills. This course will improve your spoken English and help you to become more confident speaking English, potentially helping to improve your day to day interactions when out and about. Focussing on the basics such as appropriate language, greetings and sharing ideas, this course will provide you with the tools to confidently engage in conversation.

What will I learn?

Your language and vocabulary skills will improve as well as your understanding of UK culture in a friendly and supportive environment. This course could help you with any qualifications you may be doing, for example ESOL courses or English Functional Skills, and could help you with formal situations such as job interviews.

What will the course lead on to?

You may wish to complete all 6 modules of our Living and Learning in the UK courses.
This course will also support our ESOL, Functional Skills and GCSE courses.

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a welfare team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
