What is the course about?

This course will build upon your existing skills and lead you towards a successful career in this thriving field. Whether you want to work as part of a larger company or aspire to set up your own business, our plumbing courses will help you to reach your career goals. Gain the skills and confidence you need to fit, service and repair hot and cold water systems, central heating systems, bathroom suites, and kitchens.

Why should I choose the course?

This qualification in plumbing will help you learn the trade and progress on to an NVQ. This qualification is designed for those wanting to gain the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the plumbing industry. Building upon the Level 2 Plumbing course, you will develop advanced plumbing knowledge and skills. The plumbing industry continues to grow despite the current economic downturn and there is a national shortage of skilled workers. Our courses have been designed to give you the skills and confidence to progress into employment or to work for yourself, winning work and contracts.

What will I learn?

The topics studied include:

  • Complex cold water systems including the water regulations
  • Energy efficiency and hot water systems including unvented
  • Environmental awareness
  • Central heating systems including under floor heating
  • Complex sanitation systems.

Gas and solar thermal qualifications are available for those students who are currently working in the plumbing industry.

You will be assessed continually throughout the course using a variety of methods.

What will the course lead on to?

Following successful completion of this qualification you will be able to progress into employment within the plumbing industry or perhaps even start your own business!

Are there any links with industry and university?

The college is continually developing and reinforcing links with the industry to promote work placement opportunities. We are proud to work closely with many local and national employers. A variety of guest speakers from industry are invited in to speak to students during the year, offering a valuable industry insight.

Throughout the course you may have the opportunity to take part in educational trips to enhance the learning process.

The college is committed to ensuring that all students benefit from the opportunity to undertake work placements whilst at college, and we will support you in obtaining a placement in a relevant vocational setting. It is our intention to try to place students with local employers. The placements will usually last two weeks and will complement your college programme. Some work placements completed by previous students have led to employment or apprenticeship opportunities.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?

It is a mandatory requirement to have completed a Level 2 Plumbing qualification prior to enrolling on to this course.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?

During this course, the equipment you will need to purchase includes:

  • Suitable writing equipment including pens, paper, folders, and a calculator
  • A navy polo t-shirt with the Warrington & Vale Royal College logo and plumbing embroidery
  • Black cargo / work trousers
  • Safety shoes or boots- rigger boots are not allowed
  • The Plumbing Level 3 textbook, which costs approximately £30 for a new copy

A CSCS Card will also be needed for work placements, at a cost of £30.
