What is the course about?

A Data Technician is an apprenticeship suited to any sector where data is generated or processed. The apprentice will source, format and present data securely in a relevant way for analysis using standard methods.

They will communicate outcomes appropriate to the audience; analyse structured and unstructured data to support business outcomes; blend data from multiple sources as directed and apply legal and ethical principles when manipulating data.

In their daily work, an employee in this occupation interacts with a wide range of stakeholders including colleagues, managers, customers and internal and external suppliers. They would typically work as a member of a team; this may be office based or virtual.

Why should I choose the course?

You should choose this apprenticeship if you are looking for a career in Data Management – You will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of dealing with data - sourcing, collating, error checking, formatting, analysing and presenting. This is a growing business area and you will be equipped to handle all of the core elements for a substantial bedrock on which to develop your career.

What will I learn?

On the programme you will cover the following topics:

  • Data security
  • Legislation
  • Formatting data
  • Correcting data
  • Blending data
  • Securely storing data
  • How to assess reliability of sources.

How is the apprenticeship delivered?

Classroom sessions provide you with the underpinning knowledge, skills and behaviours required to successfully achieve your Apprenticeship.

In addition, one to one sessions take place in the workplace to complete progress reviews, observations of work-based activities, professional discussions and assess workplace product evidence.

What will the course lead on to?

You may choose to continue your studies with a higher-level Apprenticeship (Level 4 or Degree Level Apprenticeship).

What support is available?

You will be allocated a designated apprenticeship coach to guide you through your apprenticeship. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.

We also have a dedicated apprenticeship matching service which matches your skills to a suitable apprenticeship employer. The college is dedicated to supporting you on-programme and helping you progress on to the next step.

What are the entry requirements?

However, some employers will accept other relevant qualifications and experience, including a relevant level 2 qualification. If you do not have English or maths at level 2, you must achieve this prior to taking the end-point assessment. You must hold at least one functional skills qualification or equivalent in English or maths to begin the apprenticeship.
