What is the course about?
This qualification is for learners who want to develop and extend their digital skills to prepare for employment for different roles in the digital and creative industries, such as software and programming, network support and digital design.
The qualification is also designed for job roles in other industries where specific digital skills are required, such as finance, marketing, science, engineering, machining and manufacturing. The qualification includes a mandatory unit along with optional units that relate directly to the skills, knowledge and behaviours expected by employers and covers a wide range and use of different digital technologies, systems and software.

This 12-week accredited course is designed to kickstart your future career in the digital world. Learners will develop knowledge and understanding of the core areas of digital and an introduction to the skills required in the digital sector
On completion, you’ll receive an industry-recognised Level 2 accreditation and be perfectly placed to enrol on a Level 3 ICT or course or move into full-time employment where you can apply their digital and IT knowledge and skills.
What will I learn?
Throughout the course you will develop skills and knowledge in:
Digital Skills Career Progression
This unit provides you with an understanding of the importance of digital skills in the workplace and how changes in employment have led to an increase in demand, across a number of sectors. You will learn about the different types of job roles where digital skills are required, and the characteristics valued by employers to establish a successful career in today’s digital economy. You will also identify your own career/progression goals and plan how you will develop your digital skills to meet your intended goals.
Database Design and Development
This unit you will learn how databases are used. You will design, develop, and test a relational database and analyse and present your findings.
Word Processing Software:
This unit will develop your ability to maximise the tools available in word-processing software to prepare, process and produce a wide range of sophisticated and professional documents accurately and efficiently.
Spreadsheet software:
You will develop an understanding of spreadsheet software tools and techniques to be able to produce spreadsheets. You will learn how to apply advanced formulae and functions to process data and use automated tools to aid productivity.
Although there are no exams, you will be expected to create a portfolio of work that the students may need to complete work outside of the classroom.

To inform the curriculum design the lecturers have strong working relationships with a creative and digital steering group making sure that course content is relevant and current.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
