What is the course about?
This course will give you an insight into the fast-paced world of computing in the world of work. It will enable you to build on your existing knowledge, develop and enhance your technical skills, and help you to embark upon a career in this ever-changing sector.
The qualification provides you with an introduction to the IT sector, enabling you to learn and be assessed in practical and relevant ways. You are not required to undertake external assessments to achieve this qualification and the expectation is that you will use this qualification as a steppingstone on to further study or possibly use what you have learnt for your existing or future employment.

This course has been tailor-made with adult students in mind, designed to accommodate your busy lifestyles and home commitments. It employs a blended learning approach with sessions taught both in college and online. You will also have access to the online classroom where you will find resources and recordings of past sessions.
What will I learn?
The qualification will enable you to acquire a range of transferable skills and knowledge which are highly regarded by employers. You will the complete the following two units:
- Communicating and collaborating online
- Improving productivity using IT
You will achieve accreditation from NCFE for these units, and you will also receive a college certificate.
What will the course lead on to?
This course can also equip you with the general skills needed for entry-level employment in the sector or to enhance your present employment skills. You could also progress on to another qualification to further your skills.
Are there any links with industry and university?
On this course, you will have the opportunity to learn from guest speakers to give you a valuable industry insight. One such visitor is the Business Development Manager at Siemens.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry or prior learning requirements for this qualification, but students who have previously completed qualifications such as the Level 1 EDSQ (Essential Digital Skills) will find it an excellent progression.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
To accommodate the online element of the course, we would recommend that you have access to a home computer and an internet connection (such as broadband or 4G/5G mobile data).
You will be encouraged to purchase an external drive on which to save your work in order to enable you to work independently outside of college.
We may be able to loan out a laptop to adults who meet the required criteria. Please enquire if you think you may be eligible.
