What is the course about?
On this course you will learn about maintaining and improving facial skin conditions, exfoliation, skin warming, facial massage, mask treatments and moisturising products. You will follow health and safety working practices and use products, tools and equipment to suit individual client needs.
You will treat a variety of skin types and use various massage mediums and techniques. You will also be expected to carry out remote learning and researching to meet the underpinning knowledge relating to the qualification.
Your tutor will be available to offer individual support for 1 hour per week on an appointment basis, this will be scheduled to suit.
Learning will take place in our state-of-the-art salon, The Academy, which features fully equipped professional beauty therapy suites. You will be immersed in this front-facing salon environment and working on real paying clients will give the opportunity to put your newly developed skills to the test and receive live, honest critique.

What will I learn?
Throughout this qualification you will learn the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be a professional beauty therapist. For example, you will complete training in the following:
- Follow health and safety practices in the salon
- Provide facial skin care
- Client Care and Communication in Beauty Related Industries
The open salon practical sessions will give you the opportunity to demonstrate your professionalism and develop a range of beauty therapy techniques for a variety of skin types.
You will be assessed performing the treatments on paying clients. For each unit an online exam will be completed, along with a diverse range of assessment methods including oral and written questions and assignments, to ensure you build a high-quality portfolio.
What will the course lead on to?
This course could start you on a new path and will provide you with the opportunity to progress onto Level 2 Certificate in Beauty Specialist Techniques, or explore our newly introduced full cost short courses, including lash lift, brow tint and lamination or builder gel nails.
Are there any links with industry and university?
We have a variety of industry links, ranging from skin care professionals to wholesalers. Meeting these professionals will give you the opportunity to build a kit for home use supporting you to perfect your skills.
We also welcome guest speakers from a range of companies to share their skills and offer industry insight. This will help to expand your knowledge of the different brands and enhance your industry knowledge and connections.

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
There are no formal entry requirements for this course aside from an interest in beauty and a basic level of written English.
You are expected to attend 100% of the course.
As part of the course you will be required to remove your make-up to enable you to provide and receive treatments, please ensure any lash extensions are removed and no cosmetic facial work has been carried out at least 12 weeks prior to starting the course.
You will carry out independent study, access to a computer or laptop is beneficial or you can make full use of the college LRC. Various resources will be made available through our virtual learning environment which will support your study skills.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
You will be expected to purchase a uniform so that you can present professional standards from the very start of your course. Further details will be available on application.
This is a college-based course and your learning is enhanced by engaging with employers. You will have the opportunity of attending additional workshop sessions throughout the day, which are provided by industry professionals throughout the academic year to ensure that you are able to experience the latest techniques and treatments first hand.
