Why should I choose the course?
This course is aimed at those without any previous experience working on anything mechanical. It provides a basic knowledge and understanding of the principles involved in the repair of light vehicles.
What will I learn?
The course will cover all the main health and safety requirements within the industry and then move on to using tools and equipment. The course will provide you with the knowledge to use the correct tool for the right job and help you understand the importance of maintaining equipment correctly.
As the course progresses, you will gain knowledge relating to how a modern light vehicle works. One of the first units is the vehicle chassis, which includes the braking, wheels, tyres, steering and suspension system. This unit will give you a good understanding of the various components and how to remove and refit them correctly.
The course then moves on to engine technology, which covers how a modern engine operates, the components involved, and how to remove and replace them correctly. The two final units are transmission and electrical.
Assessment includes two online multiple-choice tests and a number of practical, workshop-based tasks. These are spread over the whole year, and you will attempt them when you are ready.
