What is the course about?

The Level 1 Award in Cybersecurity is a modern, up-to-date qualification covering aspects of e-safety and helping keep you safe online and protect against online threats You will understand routine protective methods used to maintain cybersecurity including the principles of vulnerability and penetration testing and user access control.

This 6-week accredited course is designed to kickstart your future career in the digital world. You’ll gain valuable experience in IT & cyber security, and digital technology skills.

On completion, you’ll receive an industry-recognised Level 1 accreditation and be perfectly placed to enrol on a Level 2 ICT course or move into full-time employment in the digital world.

What will I learn?

Throughout the course you will develop skills and knowledge in:

Common forms of cybercrime and motives:

  • Fake messages
  • Stealing personal information
  • Email fraud
  • Theft of card payment data
  • Hacking

Tactics to defraud including:

  • Phising
  • Baiting
  • Malware

Know about:

  • Protective Methods to maintain Cybersecurity
  • Legislation and codes of conduct related to cybersecurity

To inform the curriculum design the lecturers have strong working relationships with a creative and digital steering group making sure that course content is relevant and current.

The course is based within our brand new Advanced Creative and Digital Skills Centre providing you with access to all of the latest digital technologies. We have highly experienced staff to support you to develop the essential digital skills so that you can flourish in future progression opportunities.

Although there are no exams, you will be expected to create a portfolio of work that the students may need to complete work outside of the classroom.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no specific entry requirements but you must be computer literate and have a good level of English.

Students would benefit from having access to a personal computer and will need broadband access with a reliable connection.
