What is the course about?

This course will teach you the fundamentals of working with individuals with learning difficulties and disabilities.

Why should I choose the course?

Whether you're a carer looking after your loved one, or you’re looking to work in the care sector, this course is an introduction to how to care for those with disabilities and learning difficulties.

What will I learn?

The course will cover a number of general topics, such as:

  • Introduction to disabilities and learning difficulties
  • Dealing with professionals
  • Looking after yourself
  • The benefits system
  • Manual handling

You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress.

What will the course lead on to?

On completion of this course, you may be offered progression onto another community learning course or offered advice on progression to a qualification.

We offer a wide variety of part-time courses for adults to help you retrain, upskill, secure that promotion, go to university, or just meet new friends. Whatever your motivation, we will have something for you.

What support is available?

We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed.
