What is the course about?
This Introduction course is aimed at complete beginners who have an interest in upcycling older or unused clothing/household items into some new.
You will be given the guidance, techniques and skills to make different the items. All items will be made using basic straight stitch, hand sewing. You will be shown basic hand sewing techniques.
What will I learn?
You will learn the how to upcycle and transform clothing and household/garden items into something new by learning new skills and techniques.
For example:
Unused T-shirts and adding appliques methods to enhance using materials, such as bedding and clothing adding a new personal style.
Small bag using the pockets and buttons from jeans.
Embellish clothing using no longer required buttons and beads from clothing and necklaces
Garden pots/household tins and glass jars to make colourful pots for your garden.
What will the course lead on to?
ACL offer many art and craft courses including ceramics.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if it is required and a welfare team that are on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
To have an interest in the subject area. Be willing to partake in classroom activities and discussions and to self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan at the end of each session.
What are my funding options?

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
The College will provide some basic materials and fabrics, needles and thread for sewing, glue and brushes.
Please bring your own dressmaking scissors each week and your tutor will advise you on what items you can bring to each week to help enhance your designs such as old bedding, clothing and lace.
