What is the course about?

This course is an introduction to coding with JavaScript. By the end of this course, you will learn what it takes to write simple JavaScript programmes. This taster course will look at the JavaScript programming language and introduce students to a basic range of programming methodologies.

Why should I choose the course?

JavaScript is one of the three fundamental skills, alongside HTML and CSS, required for web development. Inbuilt into your browser, its main use is for the development of interactivity and dynamic content for websites. It is a versatile language that is particularly useful for front end (client side) and back end (server side) web development and is therefore essential for any aspiring web developers.

JavaScript versatility means it can be used in other areas such as animation, game development, mobile phone applications, desktop applications and server-based apps. This versatility makes it an in-demand language by employers. JavaScript has access to a wide selection of libraries and frameworks to aid development and a large online support community, ideal for beginners.

What will I learn?

This taster course will introduce you to the three programming paradigms: sequence, selection and iteration. These three building blocks are fundamental to all programming languages. You will be introduced to simple program, algorithm design, variables, strings, operators, If-else conditions, loops, Functions, Events and basic debugging. This will be in the form of tutor lead, easy to follow examples and with the opportunity to practice what you have learnt.

What will the course lead on to?

Completion of this 5-week course can allow you to progress onto L2 Coding or L2 Digital Innovation.
