What is the course about?
This is a short course for beginners which will give you the basic skills to be able to create your own floral arrangements.
Why should I choose the course?
The course will give you the basic skills and techniques. If you’re interested in floristry as a hobby and would like to know how to create your own floral designs – this is a good starting point for you.
What will I learn?
During each class you will:
- Learn basic floristry techniques to enable you to produce a variety of floral designs e.g., circular posies, triangular arrangements and sheath designs.
- Identify floristry techniques and start to understand design principles.
- Discuss floral material used in the designs and how to make the best of your floral material including how to take care of your design.
- Learn how to cost one design to be sold, showing the breakdown of cost to make a profit and include labour charge.
You will be informally assessed by the tutor, and you will also self-assess your weekly progress using an individual learning plan.
What will the course lead on to?
The course leads onto Next steps and further themed short courses such as Spring, Summer, Wedding and Christmas, depending on which courses are available during the terms in the academic year.
The course will give you a basic skill to enable you to progress onto an accredited course with another provider.
What support is available?
We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a Welfare Team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.

What are the entry requirements?
This is a basic course for beginners with no prior knowledge of floristry required. Course is for adults 19+.

Are there any additional costs associated with the course?
The College provide the basic flowers, foliage and materials.
You will be required to bring some foliage each week to enhance your design and your tutor will advise on this at the first class.
A pair of floristry or household scissors
If you are sensitive to handling flowers or foliage, we recommend you wear gardening or rubber gloves.
