Parents love us!
Meet Adam and his dad, Peter. Adam first started studying at the college on a motor vehicle course before completing a Supported Internship within the department. This supported experience, combined with Adam's strong work ethic, led to him securing paid employment at the college as a technician.
Peter says: "Our experience with the college has been amazing. The quality of education is brilliant, the environment is friendly, and the SEND support has been fantastic. It's truly an amazing college."
Megi Hoxa
Megi started working at Warrington Hospital as part of the DFN project. She soon gained a reputation as a great intern and impressed so much that she secured paid employment, completing her internship early. She is now thoroughly enjoying her newfound independence!
Lee Smith
Lee also enjoyed an internship at Warrington Hospital and really impressed staff during his time on the course. His dedication and work ethic led him to secure full-time employment at the hospital, and he has since received the Chief Executive Award for his outstanding contribution in 2025.
What is Foundation Learning?
Foundation Learning provides a gentle and supported introduction to college life for young people aged 16–18 who may need more time to develop confidence, independence, and core skills before progressing to a full vocational course or apprenticeship. It includes English and maths, work experience, enrichment activities, and the chance to try different vocational pathways.
Who is Foundation Leaning suitable for?
Foundation Learning is ideal for students leaving high school who aren’t quite ready for a full-time college course and would benefit from a smaller, supportive environment where they can explore different subjects and build essential skills at their own pace.
Will my child continue to study English and maths?
Yes. Both Foundation Learning and Supported Internship programmes include English and maths at a level appropriate for each student. This may be taught through lessons, practical application, or project‑based learning.
What are the progression routes after Foundation Learning?
Foundation Learner supports students as they move on to a level 1 or level 2 course, a level 3 programme such as Step Up to Level 3, an apprenticeship, or entry-level employment depending on their goals and readiness.
How does the college ensure my child is safe and supported?
The college provides a supportive, inclusive environment with dedicated staff, including tutors, Progress Coaches, Job Coaches, and an always-available Safeguarding Team. Ofsted praised these aspects of the college as “outstanding features” in our latest inspection, highlighting our strong commitment to student support. What is a Supported Internship?
A Supported Internship is a work‑based study programme for 17–24-year-olds with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), focused on developing the skills, experience, and confidence needed to progress into paid employment. It includes substantial workplace learning supported by a dedicated Job Coach.
Will my child receive support in the workplace?
Your child will receive lots of support! Supported Interns are accompanied by a dedicated Job Coach who helps them learn their role, understand workplace expectations, and ensures reasonable adjustments are in place. This support reduces gradually - only as confidence grows.
What skills will my child develop on a Supported Internship?
Students on a Supported Internship learn practical job skills, workplace behaviour, communication, teamwork, independence, and how to carry out their tasks confidently. They also take part in employability sessions covering CV writing, job searches, and interview skills. Most importantly, they become comfortable in a work environment, becoming accustomed to getting up and going to work each day.
What is the outcome of a Supported Internship?
The goal of a Supported Internship is for the young person to progress into meaningful, paid employment of 16 hours or more per week.
Does my child need to travel independently for a Supported Internship?
While independent travel is helpful, it is not essential. Support is provided based on each young person’s needs, and independence can be developed gradually.
