Warrington & Vale Royal College students offered full-time positions at 10:10 Games following industry placement

As part of the cutting-edge Level 3 Games Design course at Warrington & Vale Royal College, students Kyle Hamilton and Liam Jaundrell recently undertook a part-time industry placement with Warrington-based video game developer 10:10 Games. This experience led to both students receiving exciting offers for full-time positions between leaving college and starting university, launching their careers with this dynamic developer, which is making a significant impact in the growing video game industry.

Kyle Hamilton and Liam Jaundrell

Kyle and Liam were originally selected for the industry placement at 10:10 Games due to their passion for gaming, strong work ethic, and prior experience with other employers. These students continually went above and beyond while at college and their enthusiasm, coupled with a clear dedication to improving their skills, made them stand out among other applicants for this placement opportunity. Employers at 10:10 Games recognised this, valuing not only technical skills but also their commitment to quality and teamwork. After 3 months of part-time experience, both students were offered full-time, paid positions upon finishing college.

While working at 10:10 games, Kyle and Liam took on essential roles in QA (Quality Assurance) testing the gameplay for upcoming titles at 10:10 Games. Their tasks included identifying bugs, testing game mechanics, providing feedback on user experience, and ensuring the final product met the studio's high standards for quality and playability. They collaborated closely with developers and designers, often working through different iterations of game builds, reporting issues, and suggesting improvements.

Following their time at 10:10 Games, both students received outstanding feedback, with Studio Ops Coordinator Lauren Urhan commenting on behalf of the company: “Both Liam and Kyle were very professional and showed a brilliant work ethic. They were quick to respond to any requests and they demonstrated flexibility to the studio’s requirements - all key skills that will serve them very well in their future professional careers. They were a great asset to the 10:10 team!”

Speaking about his experience, former pupil of Cardinal Newman Catholic High School, Liam said: “The staff at 10:10 Games were incredibly welcoming and easy to talk to, and I had a great time learning from the wider team. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, especially the multiplayer testing.”

He also praised his tutors at Warrington & Vale Royal College, saying, “The tutors on my course were amazing, and some of the best teachers I’ve had throughout my time in education. They were extremely knowledgeable and offered support and opinions whenever needed. The course was really interesting, and the open-ended projects allowed for complete creative freedom which I loved!”

Kyle, a former pupil at Weaverham High School, shared similar gratitude for this time at college, saying, “I learnt so much from my course. From industry links, to direct communication with the games community and even getting the opportunity to teach a lesson to first year students, I had lots of opportunities and support for my future. I have built connections with many people in the industry as a result of my course and even have a game credited in my name at 10:10 Games! My tutors made a huge impact on me, and have even inspired me to consider teaching Games Design at college myself.”

The internship has been a significant stepping stone for both students. Both students are heading off to university to continue with their studies – Kyle is heading to Staffordshire University, while Liam has chosen to attend Leeds Beckett University.

With a 100% pass rate in 2024, Warrington & Vale Royal College’s Level 3 Games Design Course has proven to be extremely successful in preparing students for the industry and getting them career-ready.
