Warrington & Vale Royal College remembers those who have served this Remembrance Day

Warrington & Vale Royal College has come together this week to remember and honour those who have served and sacrificed for our country. The college community marked Remembrance Day with a series of thoughtful and heartfelt tributes, led by staff and students from the Military & Emergency Services department.

On Remembrance Sunday, the department laid a Royal British Legion wreath, personalised with the college logo, at the Warrington town war memorial during the remembrance service organised by Warrington Borough Council. The wreath served as a touching tribute from the college community to those who gave their lives in service.

On campus, students and staff gathered in the Crescent Café on Remembrance Day to take part in a moving service of reflection. Level 2 students Samantha and Carrie delivered readings of ‘In Flanders Fields’ and ‘For the Fallen’, while Alex and Marion from the Christian Union shared a reading of Psalms 23. The college then joined together for a two-minute silence, during which a video was shown featuring images of staff members who have served in the Armed Forces, as well as family and friends of college staff who have also served.

The college community has also contributed to a striking Poppy Wall, created collaboratively by students and staff across all departments. Each individual decorated a poppy and included 11 words for the 11th hour, forming a powerful display to honour the fallen and all those who have served.

At the college’s new Wellbeing Café on Capesthorne Road, Skills for Independence, Life & Work students also welcomed Orford Light Lunch Club to the café to honour the fallen, where students served drinks and refreshments. During this event, one of the students, Andrew, wore his Gordon Highlanders uniform as a mark of respect, and created a poignant tribute that perfectly captured the spirit of remembrance.

The day also saw Military & Emergency Services students host a charity bake sale, raising funds for the Royal British Legion, a cause close to the hearts of many within the college.

Vice-Principal, Andy Williams, reflected on the occasion, saying: “Remembrance Day is a deeply significant time for our college community. It’s a moment for us to pause, to come together, and to express our gratitude for those who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. We are incredibly proud of our students for the respect and maturity they showed throughout this week’s commemorations.”

Warrington & Vale Royal College is proud to continue honouring those who have served, ensuring that their courage and sacrifice is never forgotten.

Lest we forget.
