Emma Miller’s journey is a great example of how adult education can transform lives. Having previously studied an Access to Higher Education course at the college before progressing to university and embarking on a career in teaching, Emma later returned to education while balancing work and family life. Wanting to follow a new passion, she enrolled on a Level 2 Counselling course and has since progressed onto level 3.
Through her studies, Emma has not only developed practical skills but also grown in confidence and self-awareness, something she describes as invaluable.
Alongside her course, Emma accessed support from the college’s Careers Team. After a one-to-one session, she was able to explore different career options, gain tailored advice, and leave with a clear plan for her future. With ongoing support and research, she successfully applied for a place on a competitive social work training programme, which she is due to start soon.
Emma’s experience highlights the importance of expert careers guidance at Warrington & Vale Royal College. Through its Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) service, students benefit from personalised support, helping them make informed decisions and take confident steps towards their goals. The college is also accredited with the matrix Quality Standard for Information, Advice and Guidance, ensuring that all advice provided is impartial and of a consistently high standard.
With experienced tutors, flexible courses, and dedicated careers support, the college continues to empower adult students like Emma, helping them build new skills, gain confidence, and take the next step in their career journey.
