Warrington & Vale Royal College celebrates another inspiring year of Supported Internships success
Warrington & Vale Royal College proudly hosted its annual Supported Internship Celebration Evening this week, honouring the incredible achievements of students on the Supported Internship and Preparation for Supported Internship programmes.
The event - filled with joy, pride, and applause - recognised the hard work, growth, and determination of students as they took bold steps towards independence and meaningful employment.

The Supported Internship programme provides students with additional needs or disabilities the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through structured, work-based learning, all while being supported by dedicated job coaches. Alongside this, the Preparation for Supported Internship programme offers in-college placements designed to build students’ confidence and skills in a nurturing environment before transitioning to external roles.
Subject Lead, Sara Shaw, and Supported Internship Co-ordinators, Fiona Chew and Leoni McHugh, delivered heartfelt speeches, reflecting on each student’s journey. They celebrated personal milestones and individual growth, sharing several remarkable success stories, including students who have now secured paid employment. Their reflections highlighted not only the power of perseverance but also the transformative impact of inclusive education and employment support.
Also in attendance were some of the students’ employers, including Michelle Cloney and Gareth Davies, Chief People Officer and Supply Chain Manager at Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Trust, alongside several other Warrington-based employers. One employer said: “I’m blown away by the talent and growth I have witnessed tonight. These young people continue to show what’s possible with the right support. The future is bright.”
Rebecca Welch, Assistant Principal: Quality & MIS at Warrington & Vale Royal College, attended the evening and presented each student with a certificate of achievement. She praised the students’ commitment and resilience, expressing how proud the college community is of their progress.
She said: “It’s heartwarming to hear the successes of our Preparation for Supported Internship and Supported Internship students. We are so proud of each and every one of them and the confidence they have gained while on these courses. I’d like to share a huge thank you to the employers who took time out of their day to attend this celebration, it meant a lot to our students, as well as their loved ones, to hear the real impact they are having on their placements and the skills they’ve developed.”
Emma Ewell, Curriculum Manager for Foundation Learning, added: “It’s always a privilege to come together and celebrate the accomplishments of our young people. The atmosphere in the room was electric, full of proud families, staff, and peers - all there to support and uplift our students.”
Warrington & Vale Royal College extends sincere congratulations to all its Supported Internship students and looks forward to supporting even more students in the coming academic year. The college remains committed to helping students take confident steps into the world of work - embodying its reputation as ‘Your Career College.’
