Local Business, Millennium Supplies, signs up its first Digital Marketing Apprentice with Warrington & Vale Royal College

Digital Marketing Apprentice Jonny Cross with employer Tony Jones

Local Warrington Business, Millennium Supplies, has recently ventured into the world of apprenticeships. The company, based on Warrington’s Wellington Street, has just celebrated 25 years of trading and having started the business in his bedroom, owner Tony Jones has seen some changes over the years.

As the world changes, businesses are now having to use digital marketing to showcase their products and services by branching out into social media, email marketing campaigns and e-commerce sites to continue to develop and grow their businesses and target audience.

Millennium Supplies is now an international brand with its own e-commerce site, though it still has a local retail shop, based at the premises on Wellington Street. Wishing to grow the business further digitally, Tony made the decision to invest in someone’s future, in this case, Jonny Cross, the ex-Priestley College Student, who has now joined the fold as Tony’s first Digital Marketing Apprentice.

Tony explains: “Jonny is our first-ever apprentice. We are really excited about being able to offer Jonny this opportunity and looking forward to developing and growing the business together. The future of Millennium Supplies is bright!”

The Digital Marketing Apprenticeship is being taught by Warrington & Vale Royal College, with the scheme rolling out at the beginning of January 2024 and several apprentices already signed up to embark on their exciting journey into the world of digital marketing.

The Further Education college specialises in getting students career ready and with the ever-increasing demand for digital skills for growing businesses, they took the initiative to bridge the gap for employers and move them forward into the world of digital.

When asked about his new role, Jonny Cross said: “I am really excited to have joined Millennium Supplies as a Digital Marketing Apprentice and am looking forward to gaining further digital skills and marketing knowledge, to help grow the business further.”

Kath Kayley, Curriculum Manager for Business Services Apprenticeships at Warrington & Vale Royal College, said: “The Digital Marketing Apprenticeship is a new vocational qualification and is a really exciting course, with a good balance of theory and practical application. By the time students have completed this apprenticeship, they will have all the acquired skills and behaviours they need to become a professional digital marketer.”

Digital Marketing Tutor Nicky Wells, who joined the college in June, has a solid background in digital marketing and copywriting, having worked freelance as a digital journalist and a social media trainer for Google. She explains: “Having worked in the industry for a while, it has been clear to see that many digital marketing graduates have been taught theory and when they are put into a work-based environment, their practical skills are lacking, as they have not been given the opportunity to complete project-based assignments. Qualifications like the Digital Marketing Apprenticeship help to bridge these knowledge gaps.”
