What is the course about?

The T Level Foundation Year is specifically designed to develop your skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours to support progression onto the T Level Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance & Repair: Light/Electric Vehicles. It is aimed at those learners who are not quite ready to start a T Level but have the potential to progress onto one.
Why should I choose the course?
This is a one-year course which has been designed collaboratively between our expert tutors, industry links and employers. You will have the opportunity to develop your English, maths and digital skills as well as developing skills for successful study, positive attitudes and behaviours.
What will I learn?
You will build your knowledge and skills in English and maths, with the aim of achieving your level 2 GCSE qualification in both of these subjects by the end of the programme. You will be supported to develop positive attitudes and behaviours, with potential barriers around pastoral and personal development being addressed, to prepare you for the T Level programme. Additionally, you will develop industry relevant knowledge and skills for the workplace. This will focus primarily engine systems and chassis systems and you will achieve a City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate in Motor Vehicle Systems.
What will the course lead on to?
The course will fully prepare you with the skills, knowledge and behaviour required to progress onto our T Level Engineering, Manufacturing, Maintenance & Repair: Light/Electric Vehicles.
Are there any links with industry and university?
You will take part in purposeful employer engagement through the programme to fully prepare you for the transition to a T Level programme and specifically for the T Level industry placement and future work-readiness. Activity will include work tasters and industry placement opportunities. You will develop key employability skills including time management, problem-solving, working with colleagues, and communication skills. There are opportunities to develop these skills through work preparation prior to placement, as part of the pastoral support and personal development activity and through technical skills learning.
What support is available?
You will be allocated a Progress Coach who will provide you with support to help you succeed on your study programme and progress on to your chosen career or progression path. We have a team of staff dedicated to providing learning support if required, as well as a welfare team that is on hand to offer guidance, support and help when needed. Additionally, eligible students can access a wide range of finance and funding support to help them during their time at college.
